Code Compliance
The Code Compliance department of the Life Safety Division is primarily responsible for conducting annual business inspections for existing commercial structures to ensure safety and compliance with the adopted fire code of that jurisdiction. The inspectors perform inspections on a classification based system. The occupancy type and occupancy risk classification determine whether the inspections are performed every one (1) or three (3) years. They also issue Operational and Hazardous Material permits, and witness workplace training and fire drills.
Evacuation Drill Witness
West Metro Fire Rescue will observe an evacuation drill once per year for businesses located in our fire district. A copy of an approved written evacuation plan is required.
Guidance documents can be found on West Metro Fire Rescue's Commercial Evacuation Planning webpage.
The requesting party is responsible for creating the written plan, having it reviewed and approved and running the evacuation drill according to their plan. West Metro Firefighters will observe the drill and provide feedback.
A minimum of three weeks advance notice is required to schedule a drill. Click here to submit a request for an evacuation drill witness.
Written plans are submitted to Captain Kent Grosse in the Life Safety Division for approval prior to scheduling the drill.
